Hey everyone! I wish I had something super special today, but I have been sucked into hockey that I haven’t been able to edit a lot of the photos from my layering session a few weeks ago. If you haven’t read my guest post at Stuff I (S)watched from last Friday, you should totally do it!

Anyway, here’s something pretty that you should be able to find at your local Target or drugstore.

This is two coats of Revlon Rain Forest, a very pretty green jelly with green shimmer. At least, it kinda shines and feels like a jelly. My photos probably look a little lighter than it actually is.

If my nails were ever to be covered in seaweed, this would probably be the closest I could get. You know those sheets of dried seaweed that you snack on? The ones you can find in a tin at the Asian supermarket. Yeah, those. Imagine cutting nail-sized pieces and applying them to your nails! Imagine if Sally Hansen created a sushi collection! That would be pretty awesome.

I am dying to try this under Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed. I bet it would look super yummy. Maybe I’m just thinking of seaweed because I had sushi this past weekend. I don’t normally get sushi in Phoenix when it’s getting warmer out, but I had the biggest craving for it. Hmm. I’m getting a little hungry now.

Holy crap, you guys! I was given the honor of writing a guest post for my super awesome friend Rach while she is out traipsing through The Motherland! I can’t believe I’ve been friends with her for as long as we can remember, but did you know we bonded over episodes of Hornblower and super early 2000′s indie music? Talk about a woman after my own heart!

Everyone should go check out my guest post NAO! I am wearing Nerd Lacquer Masonic in it, and talk about…well, you probably already know. ;D

This is the first guest post ever that I’ve written! I hope you all enjoy it!

Right now I’m heading to Game 1 of…omg…Round 2!! I can’t wait!

LET’S GO COYOTES!!

It was around 2004 when I first listened to Neutral Milk Hotel. I think they played on a Yahoo! LaunchCAST radio station I created, back when it still existed (and before it turned into Yahoo! Music). There was something so amazing about Jeff Mangum’s voice and the rawness of the horns and instrumentals that drew me in. I might even go so far as to say the band sucked me into the world of unproduced indie music (aside from The Shins, when they first started out on Sub Pop Records).

So, imagine my extreme delight when I found out Pahlish created two colors based on the song “Holland, 1945.”

How glorious is that? Onto ze polishes!

sheer raspberry pink base with small red hex glitter / red, orange, gold, pink, fuchsia, holographic micro glitter

This is two coats of Pianos Filled With Flames. The name comes from near the beginning of the song:

now she’s a little boy in Spain
playing pianos filled with flames
on empty rings around the sun
all sing to say my dream has come

I love glitter polishes that are easy to apply and aren’t too watery or thick. This is definitely one of them! I love the holographic glitter mixed into the bright, gorgeous base. There’s enough going on here, but not to the point of being too busy.

While my photos make the polish look more red than it is, it reminds me of strawberries! This is so fun and awesome for summer!

clear base with large pearl white diamonds / red, pink, fuchsia, holographic hex / pink shimmer

I added one coat of Roses In Her Eyes, in which the name comes from the beginning of the song (more specifically, the section before where the previous name originates):

the only girl I’ve ever loved
was born with roses in her eyes
but then they buried her alive
one evening 1945
with just her sister at her side
and only weeks before the guns
all came and rained on everyone

This is such a cool glitter polish. I’ll have to experiment with layering with it, because it seems like a lot of fun to use! I noticed that the glitter does settle to the bottom (probably because it’s so large), but with a good shake (and maybe leaving the bottle upside down) it will come back to normal.

I also noticed that the pink shimmer looks silvery in bright light, but it makes the shimmer from PFWF a lot prettier. It’s not so much glass-flecked as microshimmer, I suppose, but my god these two are absolutely gorgeous together. I wish I had a better camera for macro shots of the shimmer. I would take macro shots of all the things!

Hi everyone! Here is the last in the Tool trio by Lacquistry called 46&2. I think this was one of the first Tool songs I ever heard that made me pretty crazy about them in middle school. I was definitely more into Maynard’s side project, A Perfect Circle. I had the most gigantic girl crush on their violinist.

Lacquistry’s 46&2 Nail Polish is a charcoal hella-holo fine glitter in a clear base.

This is three coats by itself. I think the charcoal glitter gives the base a slight tint. I’m also not sure why I didn’t wear this with a base color, like I did with the previous two from this collection. What’s funny is this glitter goes with 90% of the clothes in my closet. I don’t know why I have so many gray items, but I’ve been trying to branch out into brighter colors (especially since summer is coming soon).

Jenna is definitely right in that this glitter is gritty. I took these photos without top coat because I wanted to add something else to it, but you’ll definitely see that it will need a layer or two of Gelous before your top coat. Also, be careful to not scratch yourself :( I can’t tell you how many times people have asked why I have small cuts on my face, and I look down at my nails and go “well…”

I decided to put on a layer of Lynnderella Mercury’s Rainbow, because I thought it would look like mirrors laying over smaller mirrors. These two go really well together. It’s a holo glitter overload! (but in the best way, of course :D)

Hi everyone! Happy Friday to all of you! Today I have something pretty interesting to show you. This is a new HARE Polish I purchased recently called Asteroid Turf.

Can you believe this is only two coats? It looks so interesting! And it looks pretty opaque in two as well. Some of the older HARE colors need more than three coats to give it some depth, but this is one of the few that doesn’t need more than two. I really think Nikole is perfecting her formulas for the better.

I wish I had The Sims installed on my PC…it was wiped when I upgraded to Windows 7. However, there was a floor covering that was green with pink dots on it. I don’t remember if it was from an expansion, or if it was fan-made or a default. This polish definitely reminds me of this! And now I want to re-install my copies onto my computer (even though they will totally be slow and unplayable) and build houses again. I think that game made me want to be an architect at some point.

This also reminds me of what I think the plague in Mass Effect 2 would have looked like, if it were ever visualized. Maybe under Mordin’s microscope or something. Wouldn’t that be a sight!

I think the colors may be off on my photos. The green doesn’t make me look sickly in real life, and it’s a little less vibrant than a neon green. My hands and arms may have gotten a little too much sun last weekend in southern California, so that may be contributing. The glitter is also a brighter pink instead of purple.

Anyway, that’s all for now! Thanks for reading! <3
