OPI The Impossible

Here’s another quick post for this week. I have been very busy learning how to drive stick shift (seriously one of the hardest things I’ve ever done after driving solely automatic for 12 years…no for real, you try un-learning bad habits after that long), trying to find a new car, and packing for Long Beach. It’s been such a busy week or two.

Why does the mini set of this have no stars in it?! It bums me out so much that I only have one good photo of this (because everything else sucked and I have standards!).

I even refrained from adding top coat to this. I know, the things I do for you. ;P So the full-sized version of this contains star glitter, which is pretty awesome. They do sink to the bottom, so you have to shake the bottle up a bit. There is a bit of Dabbing of Large Glitter, so be warned. I wonder why this was the only one with interesting glitter in it; I mean, imagine if Get Your Number had circular glitter or something. Bubbles!

I did like OPI’s first foray into textured polishes with this, but the newer set coming out bores me to death. I like interesting colors and these ones from the Mariah Carey collection that came out earlier this year really caught my eye. I know it’s going to get run into the ground like Gangnam Style, but I’m hoping to avoid it enough that it still stays interesting to me.

Yep, it’s that time of year again, where I drive to California with all the rich kids in their mama’s Lexuses (Lexii?) because they’re going to Coachella, and I just sail right past them and take a straight shot to Long Beach where I visit one of my favorite bakeries, get some sun, and of course, watch some cars drive really fast. By the way, did I mention that I’m pretty happy that Toyota is giving celebrities a FR-S to drive around the track for the celebrity race this year? Cause um, WOOP.

If you want to keep up with my trip, you can always follow me on Instagram. I believe I used a combination of Hipstamatic + Twitter last year, but IG will be so much easier to use.

Lacquistry Sedona Red

Since there is a hockey game tonight, I figure I would finally show you one of my hockey polishes. Sometime last year, Lacquistry opened up some custom orders for people and I jumped at the chance because I have never had a polish custom-made for me outside of frankens and stuff. Since the Coyotes were in the middle of playoffs, I decided to have three colors made for me. I wanted to take three things that were Coyotes to the core: their old jersey colors, the Whiteout, and their current color scheme. I sent her a few ideas of what I wanted, and she did a great job making custom polishes for me.

sedonared_bottle

This is the first one I’m going to show you called Sedona Red. It’s the official name of the color we use.

sedonared

I layered Sedona Red over OPI Got the Blues for Red. My middle finger was painted completely with it, while my other nails were GLITTER GRADIENT’D! Sedona Red contains fine red glitter with larger black and white hexes and smaller gold hexes.

sedonared2

This uses all the colors in our current jerseys and logo. In hindsight, I probably should have gone with black and white bar glitter with gold hexes, but I do love this the way it is.

I wore this to our home opener against the Blackhawks. I can’t say we did very well, but it was a seriously fun game, and we were upgraded to the lower level! This is what my view looked like:

I have never sat down there, but it was pretty cool. The game looks soooo much faster than where I usually sit, and boy do those players look a lot bigger. The fans were a little weirder though, but I think I just missed my regular crew.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Layla Cosmetics Red Taboo

Woohoo, I’m sort of back! So another reason why I’m posting less frequently is because I have to get used to editing photos and web designing on my PC again. My laptop is pretty much almost finished. The power connector on the laptop is cracked and dysfunctional as all get out, so it has trouble gathering power from the adapter to charge the battery. Oh, and just because it says “Not Charging” doesn’t mean it’s actually supplying power to the computer…it just means it’s using the battery without telling me how much there’s left. :D I’m a little slow on my PC…please pardon the dust. (Sorry. Vegas joke.)

For my joyous return, I shall be showing you one of the Layla holos MY BOYFRIEND (also another joke, this time goon made) got me during the sale on Hautelook a month or so ago.

This is four coats of Red Taboo. Three coats were over Nfu Oh Aqua Base, and the last coat was over a thin coat of SV to de-unholo-ize it. Yes, that’s a new word.

So I was kind of expecting this to be a red holo, but this is more of a reddish-pink holo. Slightly disappointed as I was looking for a vibrant red holo, but I like the color anyway. I wore this to show my boss, who was debating whether or not to purchase this.

I noticed a lot of people mention that the holo effect wasn’t as strong as the other Layla holos (or any holo, to be more general about it). I dunno about you, but it looks pretty strong to me! I love holos, but I am not an aficionado by any means. I do love living in Phoenix that I can still wear this during the winter as a pick-me-up. Yay for winter sun!

This one lasted me a few days when I brushed on SV before my very last coat. I will be doing this from now on!

I loved wearing this because it was quick and easy to put on, and quick and easy to take off. I like easy things.

A very special Crowstoes extra! GIVEAWAY IS EXTENDED!

I have recently discovered the amazingness of ribbing. Isn’t it interesting how knitting creates the coolest patterns, based on the position of your yarn and how you loop them around your needles? I think that’s pretty rad. I learned how to do a provisional cast-on last night…it took me about 5 tries to get it right. I know I’m doing everything right-handed, which never feels like it, but I also feel like I have no clue how to hold things. Ah well. Learning is a good thing, right?

When I placed my Crowstoes order, I found this in my box as an extra. It was unlabeled, so I have no idea what I should call this (or what it’s really called). I thought it was super sweet of Lauri to include this for me.

So this is my first gradient ever. I know I showed some other Crowstoes gradients earlier this week, but this was the first one I ever did. I hope you enjoy all the pictures. :)

This is a gradient of the untitled extra over a-england Camelot. The glitter contains lots and lots of bright blue hexes with super cute reddish-orange hexes scattered throughout. It’s very Mass Effect-like!

(This is the title screen/menu music. Also this is one of my favorite games…well, the second one is probably my favorite. Then the first, and the third is…it’s good. But asdfjkl; Mass Effect.)

Getting all of the contrasting glitters didn’t take much effort at all. This glitter even had lots of larger blue hexes, which didn’t interfere with the gradient-ing. (Okay, this word is totally made up if you can’t tell.)

I wore a full coat on my thumbs (which you can’t see), and it covered really nicely. I may end up wearing it when I finally park my ass on the couch and play the Extended Cut DLC. No, I haven’t played it yet, though it probably won’t change my end decision. I know, I’m super late on it. Don’t judge me. :(

You can tell I hadn’t ever done this before because I did not brush cuticle oil around my nails, so I had super glittery hands for an extra day or two. The larger glitter also stuck up over the tips of my nails, so they flaked off pretty easily. I now remember to push them down a little before adding Gelous. This was a pretty good learning experience, I must say. I’m ready to do something a little easier and do some creme gradients. :P

I have decided to extend my giveaway entries until Labor Day, September 3!! I figure I’d give everyone more time to enter. Click here to read rules and enter! I am closing entries at midnight MST on Labor Day, so get them in if you haven’t already!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Bangin’

Okay, is anyone else watching the Olympics? (Of course you are.) I watched the floor exercise last night and ERMAGERD it was so awesome. I really liked that older Romanian woman; she was so awesome. Of course I’m rooting for the American girls. They did a really good job. I was kind of hoping for a payback smuggy smug smugserton look towards that one Russian girl, but it didn’t happen. DUDE did you see Mustafina’s super smug look when Gabby Douglas messed up on the uneven bars the night before? ERMAGERD SHE WAS THE QUEEN OF SMUGSVILLE. Okay, I’m done now.

Now I have a confession to make: this is my first Rescue Beauty Lounge polish ever. Don’t ask why, though! I think it was a pretty good choice! And I’m crossing my fingers because I may be getting another one in a swap soon!

Bangin’ is a very shiny and very pretty red creme with orange undertones. I was incredibly surprised that it looked this good on me. Holy danger Will Smith Robinson, though! These photos are probably a little more orange than in person. In person (and on me), they are red with just enough orange to not give me lobster hands.

I can definitely understand why people love the application of RBL polishes. It’s one of the smoothest cremes I’ve applied, and I probably could have gotten away with one coat. I would say that this one wore average on me, though. Not average like a bad thing, but there was still tipwear on the same area on my ring and middle fingers after the same amount of time.

Bangin’ is VERY similar to China Glaze First Mate HEY SAILOR (I get those two mixed up ALL THE TIME OMFG), except a little lighter (but just as bright and pigmented). If you are looking for a dupe, that would definitely be it. I’m keeping this one and swapping away my own bottle of First Mate HEY SAILOR, because my friend Kristy sent this very pretty RBL to me.

I like wearing this polish because it does make me feel a little…oh, I don’t know…bangin’. Especially since I have been trying to get fit and not fall off the wagon. I’d say that this is the longest I’ve gone in the past 5 years in terms of working out and sticking with it. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my greatness, and the fact that the BF is my partner (or am I his?) in all this has motivated me to stick with it. This is the last week of P90X, and even though I should be “resting,” I just can’t. I want to be movin’ and groovin’; working out has now become a part of my daily routine. It’s about as routine as eating. (Except I don’t work out five times a day…oh god the horror.) I still don’t really know what I’m doing when this is all over; all I know is that I would like to do a little more lifting but even more cardio.

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: I’m a dummy and got First Mate and Hey Sailor mixed up. I fixed it in the post; thank you to Rach for pointing this out! <3
