Hi everyone! I’m writing this post from BF’s and my new iPad…it’s nice to sit and relax on the bed while writing posts! :D We have been playing Draw Something a lot, watching Netflix movies, and just having a lot of fun with it. After my mom bought one for her work a while back, I kind of wanted one too. Apparently she uses it so much that she checks her Facebook when she gets up in the morning. My mom is hilarious.

The only thing I don’t like about this is that when I need to see a preview of my post, I have to close the keyboard and go to another screen instead of having one up next to it…kind of like how you can split the code and design sections in Dreamweaver. Make it happen, WordPress!

Another thing I don’t like about the WordPress app is that I dont have access to any of my uploaded photos on my WordPress account; I can only obtain photos on my Camera Roll (which is never full). I’m probably going to have to “prep” my posts before writing it! Ah well.

There’s also another thing I don’t like about the app, but you may or may not have seen the result of it last night, so I won’t mention it.

Anyway, today I am going to show you another special edition Nerd Lacquer! I was so excited when I found out that this was a holo! I am going to attempt to show it as best as I can.

HOLY GRAIL is a super-fine-grained satiny linear holo in a dusty blue-green base with silver microglitter, medium blue-green iridescent glitter, and a liberal sprinkling of big square and hexagonal silver holo glitter. Oh, also? GLOWS IN THE DAMN DARK.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to test the glow-in-the-dark-ness, nor did I remember. I know, I’m awful! Please forgive me. BUT! You definitely do see the holo on the nail. It’s not as vibrant as, say, a Nfu Oh, but you will be twirling your fingers under the sun.

I used three coats for these pictures. They were easy to apply, and the previous coats didn’t hide the holo in the larger hexes. Heck yes!

I originally wanted to wear this for St. Patrick’s Day, but it didn’t look green enough for me. It is definitely right in the middle of blue and green: in certain lights, my nails were blue more than green, but in others it was the complete reverse.

Thanks for reading!

Happy Friday, everyone! I wrote most of this in a hurry because I have been so swamped with work and going to hockey games that I have not been able to sit down and thoroughly amuse you all.

Speaking of hockey, I haven’t forgotten about my NHL nail challenge! To be honest, I am waiting for the season to wrap up before posting any more (especially since one of the future ones features *grooooooan* a Pacific Division team!), so that I am not duly influenced by the Western Conference and its see-saw antics right now. I’m surprised I haven’t bitten all my nails off by now from watching the standings every night!

Anyway, I am excited to show you this polish tonight; I know other people have already swatched/worn it, but it is such a beautiful polish that it deserves all the love it gets.

From Nerd Lacquer’s listing:

CYANCE FRICTION is a super bright cyan/teal with copper shimmer, large and medium copper hexagonal glitter, medium turquoise square glitter, and a gorgeous pink-violet flash.

Amanda suggests using two coats for opacity, but I decided to do three, just in case. I think three coats hid the pretty copper hexes, though. :(

I hope these are color accurate; this polish was a pain in the neck to photograph. I would say that the polish is a little more green in person.

Cyance Friction definitely reminds me of large slabs of turquoise. The vibrant bluish-green plus all the copper glitter works perfectly.

Application was an A+; the polish wasn’t too thick or thin, and I found no bald spots from dragging the polish. There was definitely more than enough glitter to go around!

There’s the pink flash everyone loves. (AAAAAAAAAH UHHHHHH SAVIOR OF THE UNIVERSE!) Yes, I’m channeling my inner Queen.

I neeeeeeeeeed to wear this again. This is a must if you want to delve into the world of Nerd Lacquer. While her Doctor Who trios are my favorites, this is one of my favorites that doesn’t involve Sontaran or something equally scary.

Thanks for reading, & have a great weekend! <3

Oh, and go Coyotes! :)

Hola beautiful people! I can’t wait to show you this polish I purchased from the lovely Amanda over at Nerd Lacquer. This is one of three in her Special Edition Trio (formerly a duo!), and you will all see why this is considered Very Special. :)

From her listing:

CARBON ALLOTROPE is a clear base with medium silver hex glitter, small silver glitter, and silver and white microglitter. No dyes, no micas, no tints. The silver-sand color comes from two sizes of POWDERED. DIAMOND.

You heard it here, folks. Curved swords. Curved. Swords.

I mean–powdered. diamond.

(Okay, so you only need to watch the first 10 seconds of that video. But you’ll get what I mean.)

I hope you fellow Skyrim nuts liked that tie-in. I also hope you all have 60 hours spent on that game, but have barely advanced the main quest at all. Oh, you mean you’re not just supposed to side quest your way to the end? Oh…

Ahem. Anyway.

So this is two coats of Carbon Allotrope over three coats of Essie Marshmallow. In the sun, this is so ridiculously sparkly that it amazes even me! (This is near impossible, just so you know.) The bottle has a greenish-gray tint (on me, anyway), but it only really looks gray on your nails. That’s just from all the diamond.

I didn’t think this would edge out a holo with glitter as my favorite in this collection, but this definitely lives up to my expectations. Oops, did I just tease you? Ah well. You’ll have to see the other one soon, I guess…and the third one will, of course, be shown as well.

Amanda mentioned that the polish was scratchy upon removal. I didn’t think it was, but I did foil my nails a little bit longer just to make sure everything was removed in one swipe.

All in all, this is a gorgeous polish. If you wanted to be adorned by actual jewels, I would say that this is a low-cost solution. Whole diamonds are pretty sweet; don’t get me wrong.

Let’s be honest, though.

Powdered.

Diamond.

Thanks for reading!

Good Monday, everyone. I wanted to let you know about some changes I’ve made on my blog. You might have noticed that the title of my blog has changed. That is because I have finally started to use the name I’ve wanted to use for my blog, Adventures of a Mad Scientist. You might remember this name from a feature I used to do about frankenpolishes I’ve made. I really liked the name and I think it’s pretty indicative of who I am.

Secondly, please change all your bookmarks to www.adventuresofamadscientist.com. If you still use www.ladyflash.net, it will still forward that address to this page since I technically still own the name, but please don’t freak out if the name changes on your URL bar.

Finally, you can also follow new updates if you like my Facebook page, found here. Please click the Like button & spread the word!

Thank you all for your support, and I hope you will continue to read the blog in the future & beyond! <3

This is two coats of It’s Just A Flesh Wound over two coats of a-england Camelot. Did I mention that Camelot is now my favorite black? More favorite than WnW Black Creme? It’s opaque in one coat, is black as night (or #000000, take your pick), & just wears so well!

Anyway, back to this pretty glitter. I love the large bronze & red hexes and how they work very well with the smaller silver, red, & bronze glitter. I love warmer colors like red & bronze over black (even when it comes to what I wear!). I surprisingly don’t have anything like this, not even a glitter layering combo!

My love of this polish comes from my love of the movie Monty Python & The Holy Grail. I remember watching this movie in an English AP class my senior year in high school. Can you believe I got extra credit for coming early to school to watch this? :D

Hey everyone! I’d like to apologize for mixing up the order of polishes featured in each Doctor Who set from Nerd Lacquer on Wednesday’s post…the blog post has been fixed. My lamp broke while swatching, so I had to stop and go out and get a new bulb before continuing, which put me out of the groove. I accidentally named something it shouldn’t have, so I got mixed up. I should have just had my spreadsheet open, but that would have been too easy. ;)

Anyway! Today I’m featuring the Mad Man With A Box trio. This is a pretty sweet trio of polishes, while still managing to bring out my inner Whovian.

This is one you have seen (because I accidentally put this under the Spaceman trio) recently. This is three coats of All of Space & Time, a shimmery mint green polish with light green glitter & larger pink glitter. I’d love to layer this over a mint green like Illamasqua Milf.

This one has gotta be one of my favorites from Nerd Lacquer as a whole; the green and pink mesh very well together, and it’s definitely got your attention without being too busy.

Home of the Untempered Schism is similar to Exterminate; it is another brown polish with large gold hexes and smaller black & gold glitter. However, this doesn’t have a ton of blue, but small red glitter instead. It’s a warmer brown, and anyone who likes neutral, non-flashy colors would like this a lot.

The glitter isn’t as in your face because the brown is a lot warmer with the red and gold. So pretty, though! This would definitely be a “palate cleanser” for me as well.

This is three coats of I Think You Call Me…Sexy, aka how did this woman get the perfect shade of TARDIS blue in this polish?! And is that scattered holographic glitter I see? With large blue hexes? It’s outta this world! (Sorry, I had to say that. I couldn’t help it. Please groan accordingly.)

The name of the polish comes from a Neil Gaiman episode in season 6, where the essence of the TARDIS makes her home in a woman’s body. I don’t know if I want the TARDIS to take over my body, but I imagine it would be quite interesting.

The collection is great, but my heart definitely favors Oi, Spaceman! because of the Donna Noble references. Mad Man With A Box brings the Whovian out of us all.
