Last Hurrah of Summer: Neon Skittles!

We are all now well into the month of October, but I wanted to wear something summery and fun since it is still pretty hot over here in Phoenix. My friend Reece sent me a dupe of Essie Pink Parka that she found in the land of hockey and poutine up north, but ended up sending me four other neon-y colors too!

I couldn’t decide what to wear, so I ended up wearing all of the colors!

The brand is Billie Cosmetics. I have never heard of them, but boy do they make some kick-ass neons. I don’t think I’ve ever worn neons that apply so well as these. The purple was almost opaque in one coat! AND the blue didn’t stain! Ahhhh! What is this alternate universe I live in?

The names are all pretty plain too: Purple, Blue, Lime, Orange…and then there’s Pink Pansy. Yeah, I don’t get it. The purple reminds me of China Glaze Flying Dragon, minus the gritty “glitter.” And for some reason, I want to give up my bottle ChG Kiwi Kool-ada, but I will vehemently protect this bottle of green neon-icity to my death!

A lot of you have been asking me where I get my rings, so I will let you in on my little secret: I have been getting a lot of my cool rings from a website called The Carrot Box. It is run by a woman out of Vancouver who specializes in resin, stone, wood, glass, and other natural media to create some of the most awesome rings I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. The one I’m wearing here has gotten a tiny bit too big, but I love the colors so much that I can’t stop wearing it! I may have to get a chain and wear it around my neck instead.

I will warn you that you have to take some extra caution when you wear her more delicate pieces; I don’t know how many I’ve broken because I was being careless (or the piece being too loose and literally flying off my finger), but I think the count is up to about four or five. It is very sad.

China Glaze Pool Party + OPI DS Shimmer

Summer unlocks my need to wear insanely bright colors. I have a competition with the sunlight every summer to see who shines brightest. I’d like to think my nails win every time. The sun is only out 15 hours a day, and my nails are bright for longer, so there.

Summer also unlocks my need to wear holographic nail polish. Scattered, linear, you name it. You know I like things to thparkle, and thparkle they must. If I can’t see rainbows during monsoon season, I might as well slap some on my nails.

What better way to combine both needs than wearing a holo over a neon?

Fair warning: these photos were not taken in my lightbox. I still haven’t figured out how to take photos of holos in my lightbox. I stood on a chair to see over my floor lamp in my dining room to take photos of this so you could all ooh and ahh at the rainbows. I risked falling over to take these pictures. The things I do for you… ;)

This is three coats of China Glaze Pool Party under a very thin coat of OPI DS Shimmer. The light washed out the neon, so it looks…orange. But it’s not! It’s super bright and summery. It’s one of the few neons I wear. It acts like any other neon: streaky, dries matte, is mind-searingly bright, etc.

I wish I could tell you that these pictures don’t do this combo justice. And is Pool Party considered red? Or red-orange? Coral? I suppose it’s red. Right?

I’m not gonna lie, I took these two outside and I couldn’t see the holo at all. Still, I kinda liked how the orange came out of the base. I’m not even gonna ask Mother Nature how she decided to pull the orange out for all to see, because it certainly didn’t look like that when I went outside to attempt to take photos.

I wish I could tell you how bright and sparkly and holo it is in the sun since my pictures obviously tell the worst of lies, but you’ll just have to believe me.

Candeo Colors Dive Bomb + China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise

TGIFF! ;) Man, this week has been ca-raaaaaazy! I am so happy to have a weekend to relax & unwind. Today I have a super fun mani for you! Neons are a big part of my summer nail ensemble. I don’t own a lot of neons, nor do most neons look good on me, but they lift my spirits when it heats up outside.

Technically this is a post in which I use Candeo Colors Dive Bomb effectively, as I wasn’t feeling it over anything else but a neon. A turquoise neon, at that.

So this is one coat of Dive Bomb over possibly three coats of my favorite neon ever, China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise. I love layering glitter over this. I’m sure I posted something from last year with TUT. By the way, I love how the abbreviation I use looks like a face. :D

Even though I used three coats, TUT still looked super smooth and the solo glitter coat made sure you could see the neon shining through.

When I originally took photos of this, I was freaking out that the turquoise was not neon enough and not green enough. I had the same issues with Nerd Lacquer Cyance Friction. Bright and vibrant colors just do not like my camera.

I really like the tiny blue glitter dispersed throughout my nails. It doesn’t get lost in the neon. One coat of glitter is perfect for what I was going for today. Large, medium, and small hexes in all sorts of colors.

Thanks for reading, & have a great weekend!

Nail-venturous Floam

Woohoo, it’s Friday! It’s Memorial Day Weekend! Time to catch up to all my other friends in Diablo 3! Time to work out a lot and yell at Tony Horton on my TV screen! Time to (hopefully, if the BF wants) have a food cheat day!

Time to show something fun!

Ah yes…you’ve probably seen this before…this is the infamous Floam by Nail-venturous.

This is two coats of a neon yellow and blue glitter, which dries matte. These two photos do not have top coat on them, so you can sort of see how they dry. I wanted to layer them over something, but I didn’t know what. This is what it looks like on its own. Coverage was not terrible, though if you just put the second coat on within a normal amount of time, you get glitter drag so you have to even things out. I can’t tell if I like the glitter without top coat or not. I’d probably just add it in anyway because I feel naked without it.

I think my brush may need a trim, because when I bought it, the bristles were bent fromt leaning against the bottom of the bottle. I hate that so much. It’s so annoying. It’s not the seller’s fault or anything, but whoever makes the brushes needs to shorten the brush handle, or shorten the bristles. How do they not see that when they put them together, anyway? Bah.

I purchased this during the last big swing over at Ninja Polish. I think I was at a hockey game earlier that night, and I had read that their servers went kaput when people rushed to buy this. When I got home, I saw the website was up and everything seemed to be working fine, so I went ahead and placed my order with no issues. When people stopped trying, I swooped in for the prize. ;D

I’m gonna leave you with the music video for “Cerulean” by Simian Mobile Disco. Have you heard their latest album, Unpatterns? It’s not as dark as Delicacies, but it’s still pretty amazing.

Thanks for reading, and have a merry (AND SAFE DAGNABBIT) Memorial Day!
