HARE Polish Heffalumps

Hi everyone! Tonight, I have a very special polish to show you. You probably hear me say this a lot. I do believe that all my polishes are special; after all, if they weren’t, why would I own them? :)

Anyway, this is from HARE Polish’s Halloween collection. It is one of the few Halloween collections (or collections in general, really) where I own every bottle. Aside from Lynnderella, obviously. :P On to ze polish!

Preeeeetty bottle! Isn’t that the cutest thing?

This is four coats, because I didn’t bother to wear undies. Yeah, you’ll be taking a bit more time than usual if you decide to go commando. It’s worth it, though! What I love about HARE Polish is that the bases are so jelly that there is a ton of depth to the large glitter contained in the bottle. I love that the pink & blue hexes give the polish a bokeh effect.

You will probably be doing a bit of positioning with the glitter. Also give the bottle a good shake! What I did was polish the base and whatever glitter stuck, and then I grabbed some more glitter on my brush near the inside neck of the bottle and then dabbed the rest of the glitter on my nail. It takes less effort than you think.

WHERE TO BUY
HARE Polish: Etsy store (follow her on Tumblr or get on her mailing list to find out when she restocks!)

Thanks for reading!

Hope you enjoyed this post! I’ll definitely be posting the other three from this collection soon.

Top 15 Polishes of 2011

Happy Friday, everyone! Today, I have a list of my Top 15 polishes for 2011. I’m going to be up front: two are considered cheaters, since they weren’t released in 2011. However, I did try to stay within the polishes that were released this year to at least be truthful to my post title.

I’m just gonna jump in, if you don’t mind. These are all listed in alphabetical order (plus release order for multiple brands).

a-england TRISTAM
The first a-england polish I ever fell in love with. It’s blue, with the slightest bit of scattered holo, and it’s pretty. What’s more to say? Plus Adina is one of the sweetest women I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with.

butter london ALL HAIL THE QUEEN
My palate cleanser, with a subtle scattered holo. Look, I can’t help the attraction to shinies. This may not be considered neutral to some, but come on. If you knew me at all, you know I gotta have some sparklies in my life!

chanel RIVA
Okay, so this is one of the “cheaters” in this list, because this was technically released in late 2010. However, this was created for a 2010-11 collection, soooo…there! I love this polish, even though it’s a pain in the ass to apply, because it started my love for subtle shimmer. Plus, it’s blue. Always a good thing.

deborah lippmann GLITTER IN THE AIR
Why, bottle? Why must you be misleading? Why must you be a milky white, milky white-r than Essie Marshmallow, instead of a milky light blue? Oh, because you are the cutest DL glitter that came out this year, and you started my love for Big Pieces of Glitter. You make everything look like confetti cake. Yes, even black.

essie SHINE OF THE TIMES
While I don’t consider this particular polish one of my favorites, I do consider its many dupes my favorite as a whole. Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, Nubar 2010…I cannot pick you because you were not released in 2011. SotT is a bit more dense than its previous brothers and sisters, and I am not the biggest fan of dense flakes. This, though, is the most versatile polish I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning.

hare polish BISBEE
I love shopping local. I love shopping at small businesses. I love small polish “companies” that do their own thing, and in the process, create a voracious following that wants to own every single polish imaginable. I’m part of that voracious following, and I want nothing more than every single polish maker to succeed. Oh, and I like polishes envisioned after places around me. This is the perfect example.

illamasqua RAINDROPS
I’m including this because it was on their 5GBP sale on Illamasqua’s website this year, and I snapped it up. I wear it and try to remember what rain looks and smells like, in hopes of rain actually showing up in my desert of a city. This is my personal rain stick.

lynnderella CONNECT THE DOTS
Put it over white. Put it over black. Put it over blue. Put it over red. Put it over glitter. Put it over green. Just don’t put it over your eyes; you may not be as impressed as you think. A true masterpiece of glitter.

(over a-england Camelot)

lynnderella THE GLITTERING CROWD
This is a party in the bottle; the very best kind. This is what you wear on your birthday, the birth of a child, the marriage of two lovers, your anniversary, New Year’s Eve…hell, wear it when you just feel happy.

(over Illamasqua Milf)

lynnderella ATTITUDE ADJUST-MINT
You want to change your life? Get off the couch. Take a walk around the block. Eat an apple instead of a chocolate orange. Smile at strangers. I want to change my life when I wear this.

nfu oh 51
Purple? Check. Flakie? Check. Vibrant colors of the rainbow? Check. No underwear required? Check. Another one of my favorite flakie polishes this year.

(over OPI I Vant To Be A Lone-Star)

opi LAST FRIDAY NIGHT
This is another polish that began my love for glitters. Katy Perry was the first collection I fell in love with, and I have this polish to thank for turning me into a crazy, glitter-hoarding woman. If I had a light blue jelly, this entire bottle would be gone.

opi HOUSTON WE HAVE A PURPLE
Dumb name, awesome, awesome jelly. Sorry Suzi, but the names leave something to be desired. It’s like the Modcloth of nail polish. Thank goodness I wear polishes because of the color and not the name, right?

opi DS EXCLUSIVE
Look, I know this wasn’t released this year. It shouldn’t be on this list. But when you have the biggest lemming imaginable for a polish and you want it so much, and through the luck of the internet and the nice people that use it (yes, it is possible) you obtain it, and when you hold the actual bottle in your hands and you know that it’s finally yours…it deserves to be on this list. It’s required that this is on my list.

zoya DOVE
I suppose Dove is a female name, but I’m more into the color. Gray. Plain, possibly boring (but totally not), super chic and super versatile. I overlook this three-coater for the color. Everyone needs more gray in their lives.

OH!! Did you notice the not-so shadowed background? BF got me a lightbox with photography lamps for Christmas! Don’t the photos look awesome?! While I need bulbs to show off linear holographics a little better, it’s one of the best presents I’ve gotten. (Not gonna say anything about the sexy Italian black pumps he got me either, no sir.) He wrote “follow your dreams, you are amazing” on the tag, which made me all happy inside.

So there ya go: fifteen polishes, 2011, fin! This blog has been around since 2007, but I didn’t start writing about nail polish until this summer. I consider my blog a success because you, the reader, are looking at this post right now. I thank each and every one of you for visiting, commenting, staring at the pretty pictures, reading my crazed hockey blurbs…you name it. I hope you will stick around during 2012 & beyond as well.

Be safe, be well, be wonderful. See you around the corner. <3

NARS Night Flight

Hey everyone! Sorry this post is so late. I thought I wrote it up this morning, but I totally forgot and I just got back from a hockey game a little while ago. Let’s just say that even though we lost in OT, I’m impressed that we held the best team in the league to two goals. AND we didn’t take any penalties (aside from fighting). It’s okay if you don’t know what I’m talking about. :)

So tonight, I have NARS Night Flight to show you! If you remember last week, this is the polish that the wonderful Nola sent me for Secret Santa earlier this month. I wore it to midnight Mass last weekend because it matched my dress & tights. Since I didn’t have time to do my nails at home, these have all been taken in the sunlight of my MIL’s kitchen. I wish my own kitchen got a ton of sunlight (or faced my backyard…you know, scenery!).

This is two coats. This is a dark navy polish with gorgeous blue & purple microshimmer.

I wish the microshimmer came out more in the sun & didn’t just look silvery. This looks a lot better in normal, regular light. I am just a huge sucker for subtle shimmer; it’s like the best kept secret that no one knows about except you. (Chanel Riva is a perfect example.)

It is such a gorgeous polish, and for my first NARS I am incredibly pleased!

I’m going to have a very special post on Friday, so stay tuned! Thanks for reading!

a-england Holy Grail + Lynnderella Happy Holo-daze!

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas weekend. I hope you’re not over Christmas manis the day after, because I have to show you the one I wore! I know, it’s too little too late to be festive, but I thought it was super awesome.

So here we have two coats of a-england Holy Grail. HG is a gorgeous shiny golden polish. I love it because it looks way cooler than OPI Glitzerland, which is too dusty for my tastes.

This is one of the only a-england’s that I own that needs a second coat to be opaque. Which is not a big deal or anything, but considering everything I’ve used so far only needs one coat…you know, #firstworldproblems and all that. :)

I know that this polish wasn’t the main focus of this post, but I couldn’t help but take a ton of photos of this. It’s a vibrant gold, and I love it! This might just be my…you know…”Holy Grail”…gold. (Yeah. You saw what I did there. :D)

And here is two coats of Lynnderella Happy Holo-daze over Holy Grail, part of the Holiday Houseguests duo. This is definitely one of the few Christmas-y polishes I have. I don’t even think the reds & greens I have are tailored towards the holiday.

Doesn’t it look super festive? I loved seeing other pretty ladies layering this over gold, so I had to try it out for myself.

I didn’t get a chance to get a shot in the sunlight, but I did manage to snap one in my car while on my way to work. No, I wasn’t driving WHILE I took the photo. It’s super cute how everything comes together.

I have this ENTIRE week off (thanks, job! :D), so I will be working hard on new content for this site! Other than that, I will be sleeping in until 10AM & playing Skyrim all day.

My Secret Santa Package

Hi everyone, and happy Friday to you all! Or rather, happy Christmas Eve’s Eve! :D

Today, I have a really special post for you all. I participated in a forum-wide Secret Santa, and my package arrived early last week…from Poland!! I was totally not expecting it! USPS doesn’t like leaving packages from Poland on my doorstep, so they always sit at the post office closest to me that is never open before I leave work, or after I get home from work. Argh! I managed to obtain my package finally, and this is what I found when I opened the box of goodies:

This is the card inside the box. The envelope had this very pretty wooden ornament on it, which was adhered to the outside of the envelope. I don’t know where she got them, but they are so adorable.

Cute wrapping paper with another ornament! Aren’t they cute? I want socks with that print.

Oooooooh, really? Okay! *unwraps other presents* I’m going to show you pictures of all the AWESOME CANDY AND POLISHES I got last, but we’ll skip to this because…

Wha…? Is that what I think it is?

No way!!

NO WAY!!

OH MY GOD IT’S NARS NIGHT FLIGHT :D :D :D Look how pretty that is!! This is my first Nars polish I own, and it is so gorgeous!! Blue and purple shimmer? I die!!

She also sent me small perfume samples, which I am a sucker for. L-R: Les Parfums de Rosine Diabolo Rose (a rose scent with a slight hint of citrus & mint), The Different Company Un Parfum des Sens et Bois (a spicy, citrus, woodsy scent), Il Profumo Mandarine Absolu (a wonderfully green mandarin scent). All smell wonderful and are so me!

Here is the entire package. The Haribo gummi bears definitely didn’t last long around me! I have no idea what the Hello Zelo was, but it was like a candy straw with sweet filling inside…tasted very similar to Sweet Tarts, and very addicting! The bag at the bottom are gummi fruit pieces that have different shapes & flavors for different fruits. And the chocolate…was filled…with marzipan. OMG my weaknesses.

I wish I took better photos of the other polishes she got me, but they were Barbra Colour Alike Nie, Bo Niebo (a gorgeous bright blue with what appears to be duochrome blue to purple shimmer), Rimmel Pro Aqua Cool (a super pretty periwinkle blue), Essence Into The Dark (an awesome grayish-blue with silver shimmer), and Essence Just Rock It! (a dark blue creme, aka my weakness!). Heehee. My Secret Santa satiated my love for blue polishes!

So to Nola, my Secret Santa: THANK YOU!! <3 You are such a sweet lady & I love everything you sent me! I haven't worn my precious yet, but when I do I will show everyone all the pretty pictures of such a pretty polish!

Well folks, I hope you enjoyed everything. Tonight, I will be at a hockey game, where Keith Tkachuk is going to be inducted into the Coyotes Ring of Honor (so sweet), and will be with family for Christmas the whole weekend. I hope you all have a wonderful time with your families & that you are able to cherish the time spent with them on this glorious Christmas weekend.

See you all next week! <3
