OPI Kiss Me On My Tulips

Ermagerd! I’m switching it up! I’ll be posting on Wednesdays for a while. I also suppose this post is fitting for that Pink Wednesdays thing some blogs post about. Don’t worry, I won’t just be posting pink polishes.

Precautionary warning: these photos seem a little washed out to me. The pink is supposed to be a bit darker.

This is three coats of OPI Kiss Me On My Tulips. It’s a blue-based vibrant pink. I don’t know if anything blue-based looks good on me; maybe if anything, it makes my hands look a little dirty. I accented my thumb/index/middle fingers with HARE Polish The Sky Was Pink (with additional accents on my ring/pinky on my left hand). I love accenting my nails like that. I blame The Sneakerette.

I’m late to the party. I mean, obviously I’ve worn TKWP before, but I used a different base color the last time. This was a perfect match, though. That shimmer makes me squee.

I am trying out A Different Thing in which I stop using cuticle remover and just moisturize while pushing back my cuticles. I feel like it’s not working out so well. I usually forget to moisturize (plus it’s weird when you work in a lab where your hands have to be clean all the time), and even when I’m home I forget to reach to my left about four inches (if that) and grab my Lemony Flutter. I am pretty bad at that now. We’ll see if it helps, but if they start looking extra ragged, I am grabbing my Blue Cross and dunking my hands in a bowl of it.

Hits Moonbow

A few weeks before my trip, I did a swap with my super awesome friend Theo. I had so much fun getting a package from her; she sent me the most awesome card, has the coolest stickers, and she packages items up like a pro. <3 her!

Anyway, I had lots of fun wearing everything I received…I'm actually not even finished wearing everything she gave me! There is one I'm saving for…whenever, not sure yet. But this is a very interesting combination I just so happened to think of when I was messing around with random generators.

This is one coat of Hits Moonbow over two coats of HARE Polish Supernova Springs over two coats of OPI Plum Full of Cheer. My boss actually recommended I layer a purple under SS…she is very crafty! Moonbow contains duochrome-y (possibly multi-chrome-y) glitter that flashes from blue to purple to pink to orange. It works so well with the green glitter in Supernova Springs, which then works way awesomely with the purple shimmery color in Plum Full of Cheer.

I like to think of Moonbow as the offspring of Ozotic 528 and 529 (which, funnily enough, I swapped to Theo!). It applies super smooth and doesn’t feel gritty. I’m not entirely sure why I disliked 528 & 529 so much, but absolutely loved Moonbow. It doesn’t make sense to me, but then again, I never make much sense to a lot of people.

The coloring on this combination reminds me of Orly Galaxy Girl, except (obvi) not as frosty. And look, there is totally a small orange flash on my index finger there! Way rad!

Unfortunately, when I took these photos, it was the morning after I had painted them, and I caught my finger between my Melmer drawers. A huge dent formed on my middle finger. I was so bummed! I am super clumsy in the morning, pre-coffee. (And probably post-coffee, shortly after.) I’m not entirely sure why my SV wasn’t completely dry, considering I found no sheet marks when I woke up that morning.

I love galaxy nails. I am a lazy bum when it comes to nail art-ing them on my nails (e.g. I’ll never do it and I’ll have to be super focused and determined before you ever catch me doing it), but I love thinking of new combinations to simulate space.

HARE Polish Cosmo Blossoms

Sometimes when I have swatchfest weekends, I photograph, edit, and upload so many photos that I forget about some of the drafts that sit unloved in my Drafts folder. This HARE Polish is one of them.

This is three coats of HARE Polish Cosmo Blossoms. This is chock-full of green glitter in various sizes, swimming around a lilac base. It’s a shade darker than true lilac, so I like it a lot more. At least it’s not frosty in any way. In high school, I would only wear frosty silvers or lilacs on my nails…I will do this no longer. WHAT WAS I THINKING? Frosty polishes make me want to do this:

I don’t believe I layered this over anything; this is just the polish by itself. It doesn’t suffer from tip shrinkage like Supernova Springs does; what I mean is, this is pretty opaque on its own and since it has a jelly-ish base, it doesn’t shrink away from the tips of my nails so they don’t look half-painted. I layer a lot of HAREs because of this. The phenomenon is very similar to every other jelly I own; I just have to give it a little more TLC to make it do what I want. (Hmm, that sounds kind of creepy; I assure you, officer, I’m not roofie-ing my nail polish!)

Application is no different from any other recent HARE colors. I don’t believe you need Gelous to smooth it out, but I put it on anyway. It’s now a habit, I suppose.

HARE Polish The Monster

HAHAHA! Guess which HARE I hadn’t posted, AND which made a comeback last night at the super surprise HARE Polish store restock?

This one. :P

So, I’m not gonna lie…this post has been sitting in my drafts folder for forever, and it’s so old that it bears my old watermark. LOL. I know, it’s bad. I do apologize in advance.

BUT! You know you’re getting a special surprise when you get a post THIS early in the morning. Aside from the fact that you get another post aside from my usual posting schedule, you get…well, I’ll tell you later. Anyway.

This is three coats of HARE Polish The Monster by itself. The Monster is a way rad black and green glitter in a dusty green base. When I say dusty, I mean crypt dust dusty with some grayish undertones.

I didn’t use undies for this, but I definitely could have layered it over OPI Jade is the New Black or just a black creme. This came from her incredibly small late Halloween release. The glitter is kind of gritty (in my bottle, anyway), but with some Gelous + SV, it will be smooth in no time. I don’t believe I used a top coat over this, so you may be able to see some of the bumps. I love the shimmer in the green. If I could be Dr. Frankenstein for one day and create my own monster, it would probably be covered in something like this. :D

So, the special announcement. You may have seen a few pieces of jewelry that I’ve made on Instagram. I decided to open an Etsy shop called The Scientist’s Workbench and share a lot of what I’ve made with everyone! There are only a few items up and I will be adding more soon, but I will be carrying everything from necklaces to rings, large and small. Ooh, and magnets. I am a huge sucker for magnets. I will also be carrying earrings, both dangly and regular posts. I’m not expecting this to be a huge venture, but I can’t keep all my jewelry at my place anymore! Shipping will be U.S.-only for now, but if this works out pretty well I will open my shop up to international buyers as well. Think of this as a small test run. :D

Point your mouse fingers below and check out what I currently have up for sale!

HARE Polish Midsummer’s Midnight

Here we are: the last HARE to wear. I, er…dare…d…to wear it. >_> (Sorry, I’m really reaching here.)

You will moan and groan at my jokes and you will like it!

When I looked at each bottle, I picked this out as my favorite. I think I said exactly “BLUE AND PINK AND PURPLE AND GREEN YESSSS” when I first held it in my hands. Then when I wore it, it wasn’t my favorite anymore. I’ll tell you why in a sec. Here are some pretty pictures while you wait.

This is two coats of Midsummer’s Midnight over a-england Camelot. Midsummer’s Midnight contains green and pink hexes, and pink and blue glitter. It layers perfectly over black obvi, but I really want to try it over a dark blue or pink or purple or green. I have no idea if it will work, but science is all about trying different methods to achieve a result, either good or bad! :D Application was no different from all current HARE Polishes: smooth, more than enough glitter payoff, and an extra smooth surface with Gelous/SV.

This was my favorite in the bottle because it reminded me of my favorite hi-tops as a kid in the 80s. You had them as well, and they were your favorite, too. I kinda like that neon everything has made a comeback; it is super fun and reminds me of my childhood. All these colors work incredibly well together.

Now, this is why this is no longer my favorite HARE from the summer collection: do you see many blue squares on my nails? Not a lot, right? I had to fish all the ones on my nails out. I was hoping they would be easier to get (or that there would be more in the bottle), but I think they were all stuck on the side of my bottle and it was a pain in the behind to get them all on my nail. That bummed me out because I loved seeing the pink and the blue complement the purple and the green really well.

Some final thoughts on the spring/summer duo and the summer collection:

I have noticed that some of the new HAREs (in particular, the ones in the spring/summer duo and the summer set) have a very similar mix of glitters, but with different base colors or additions of other colored glitters. I don’t really know how to feel about this, since I really like all of the colors. I know at least one person has mentioned it to me, but that’s about it. I know it would bother others. They apply so well and the formula/application has improved over time that I don’t know if I would consider it a “minus” as much as the next person, though.

The summer foursome is easily my favorite collection this year. I couldn’t find many base colors to pair the spring/summer duo with, but each color in both epitomizes the season this year. And, well, every year.

There was no color I didn’t like, and there were even some awesome surprise winners. These are some of my favorite polishes this year, and I don’t think I’ve really liked a whole collection as much as this. Hopefully I’ve created some lemmings for you all, whether it’s all of them or just one.
