Layla Cosmetics Emerald Divine

Hola! Happy Tuesday! I know we’re all past St. Patrick’s Day, and I hope your hangover from this past weekend has worn off long ago. You have major problems otherwise.

Who else has been annoyed as all get out that Google Reader is being shut down in July? I KNOW I AM ;_; Actually, I’ve been more irritated than annoyed. Google Reader is my morning newspaper, man! It’s my after work newspaper! It’s been my before I go to bed newspaper! Nothing will compare. I haven’t done much research on alternatives; I hear Feedly is a good one, but still not there. I noticed a lot more people have been following me on Bloglovin, so if you really want, you could always use that. I am trying out The Old Reader, which apparently is like the old Google Reader (lol), but I am in a line of 48K people trying to import their subscriptions, so we’ll see how this goes.

Since it’s getting warmer, I figured I would show a couple pictures of a holo polish I wore pre-festivities.

Sorry, there are no bottles here. I figured I would get straight to the point. This is three coats of Layla Cosmetics Emerald Divine. I also added some SV on top for longer wear, then a final coat of ED over that. What’s funny is SV really doesn’t dull these Layla holos as much as other people say. But maybe that’s just me.

This second picture shows the actual color a little better, instead of DOUBLE RAINBOW WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. Actually, there were no bottle shots because I took this early in the morning, and the sun was coming through the blinds in my window. I think my lightbox was also stored away somewhere and I didn’t want to get it out. (I have just been lazy like that! I can’t help it.)

The return of The Mad Scientist…and Jengish Chokusu

(Yes, that is me.)

Wow, I am writing a blog post again after 115 days. (Yes, I counted.) I MISSED YOU GUYS! Some of you kept in touch through my FB page, Twitter, and/or my Instagram, and I thank you for still thinking of me. I have totally been around, just…not really within the blogging world. It wasn’t because I didn’t like you!

Some of you know that I moved to a bigger place and had to pack up all my stuff. Well, this was back in mid-December. It rained the day we moved. Fantastic, I know. Hey, at least my nail polish arrived safely, right? :D I got a new dining room table and a dresser out of the deal, plus my workspace in the office is so much bigger. AND I have closet storage so I don’t look like someone that belongs in an episode of Hoarders!

I’ve also been knitting like a crazy person. It’s getting warmer out, so I’m sticking to working from my stash, and working on my very first garment (the one called “Francis”). The booklet is gorgeous. I’ll have to post pictures of it soon.

Oh yeah, and the hockey season started up in January, too. Well, I mean we’re a little past halfway through it. The regular season ends at the end of next month. So weird. Also, this happened earlier this week, so PARTY TIEMS 4 EVERYONE.

So really, I’ve just been one heck of a lazy blogger. I have lots and lots of stuff to show you, though. I can’t wait!

Elevation Polish calls this a “sea glass creme,” and I am inclined to agree. I used to live in L.A., and while I spent some time at the beach during the summer as a kid, I don’t think I ever found any worn sea glass. But this color is definitely it.

This is three coats of Jengish Chokusu, with Nerd Lacquer All of Time & Space as my accent nail. This is my somewhat lazy attempt at wearing green today. Is it green? Is it blue? I have always been drawn to colors like this, even as a child.

Did you know that kids at my elementary school used to pinch me because they thought I wasn’t wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day because the color was so ambiguous? Well to you kids who put me down, I give the double deuce to you and your severe lack of imagination.

AoT&S is a little greener than JC. I originally didn’t want to apply it on top because Jengish was so beautiful on its own, but I royally messed up my ring finger (Seche Vite, Y U SO THICK), so on it went.

To be honest, I am not a big fan of drinking holidays. New Year’s Eve, Halloween, and St. Patrick’s Day are holidays where I try to spend as much time at home as possible. I do not want to be around when there are normal people who decide to leave their common sense at home for one day and do stupid things!

Anyway, that’s all for now. Thanks for reading, and see you soon!

Lynnderella She Lived in a Swamp + a-england Dragon

I have had this…I don’t know what to call it…want? I guess it has been a want. I have lately wanted to wear my Lynnderellas. Yes, they’re all old. Vintage, if you will. The sting of being considered a show-off and beneath such an ARTISTE in mind and creativity has slowly melted away, and in the spirit of Halloween I have wanted to break them out again. After all, it’s just nail polish, right?

So here I am, revisiting some of my old polishes that I have kept. I’m going to attempt to post something Halloween-ish every Wednesday, up until Halloween. I’m not one for school spirit and all that, but I do like to (attempt to) participate!

This is two coats of a-england Dragon, topped with a coat of Lynnderella She Lived in a Swamp.

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why this called out to me, or why I kept it. This is one of the original bottles from the Halloween 2011 collection, and all the bar glitter is a pain in the ass to lay flat. I thought I could turn a blind eye to the difficulty in application, but it annoys the crap out of me. Dabbing glitter on is one thing, and I don’t mind that. But stabbing unruly bar glitters is something I do mind. Maybe it was intentional back then, too.

The combination is still a nice one. In real life, you can see the sort-of duochrome-y-ness in Dragon. And I’ve heard that some people don’t like claw poses, so here is a straight-fingered one for you!

Last Hurrah of Summer: Neon Skittles!

We are all now well into the month of October, but I wanted to wear something summery and fun since it is still pretty hot over here in Phoenix. My friend Reece sent me a dupe of Essie Pink Parka that she found in the land of hockey and poutine up north, but ended up sending me four other neon-y colors too!

I couldn’t decide what to wear, so I ended up wearing all of the colors!

The brand is Billie Cosmetics. I have never heard of them, but boy do they make some kick-ass neons. I don’t think I’ve ever worn neons that apply so well as these. The purple was almost opaque in one coat! AND the blue didn’t stain! Ahhhh! What is this alternate universe I live in?

The names are all pretty plain too: Purple, Blue, Lime, Orange…and then there’s Pink Pansy. Yeah, I don’t get it. The purple reminds me of China Glaze Flying Dragon, minus the gritty “glitter.” And for some reason, I want to give up my bottle ChG Kiwi Kool-ada, but I will vehemently protect this bottle of green neon-icity to my death!

A lot of you have been asking me where I get my rings, so I will let you in on my little secret: I have been getting a lot of my cool rings from a website called The Carrot Box. It is run by a woman out of Vancouver who specializes in resin, stone, wood, glass, and other natural media to create some of the most awesome rings I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. The one I’m wearing here has gotten a tiny bit too big, but I love the colors so much that I can’t stop wearing it! I may have to get a chain and wear it around my neck instead.

I will warn you that you have to take some extra caution when you wear her more delicate pieces; I don’t know how many I’ve broken because I was being careless (or the piece being too loose and literally flying off my finger), but I think the count is up to about four or five. It is very sad.

The Hungry Asian Mint Condition

I don’t know how many episodes of the new Downton Abbey series there are, but this series has been depressing so far. I guess when you’re a drama series you have to inject that drama into every nook and cranny, including the freaking rug. Sigh.

Here is one I haven’t posted yet. I snapped this up when it was initially released on THA’s Etsy shop. Mint green was never one of my favorite colors of all time…I wonder if this makes me a hipster because all the vintage mint green things caught my eye? I dunno.

This is three coats of The Hungry Asian Mint Condition. This is a(n obviously) mint green creme base with small red, blue, and purple glitter. I think there’s even black glitter in there, but I don’t know if that’s the light catching the glitter in a different way.

I was…well, a little disappointed with this. I followed some advice on her Etsy shop listing to swipe the top layer of excess base color to bring out the color of the glitter. That worked fine. It’s the amount of glitter I could get with each coat. It just wasn’t enough for me. I wasn’t expecting a glitterbomb or anything, but her photos made me think I wouldn’t have to fish for glitter and I would get a tiny bit more glitter out. Maybe it’s all sunk to the bottom and I haven’t noticed? I’m not sure.

Still, I do love the color and I will most definitely wear it again, if only to try and apply it a little differently to get some more glitter…or to try some new application method to get it to how I like it.
