Crowstoes Last Call At The Crow Bar + OPI Fly + Lacquistry Undertow

WELCOME 2013!

Haha, just kidding. I wore this on NYE actual, but I am just showing you now. Yes, I am lame!

Please enjoy my pictures from my bathroom since I didn’t have my lightbox set up (at the time). These are all pretty color accurate, at least!

This is 3? 4? coats of OPI Fly, then two coats of Lacquistry Undertow, and then finally one thick coat of Crowstoes Last Call at the Crowbar on my ring/pinky fingers on my right hand. I alternated my “accents” to my thumb/index/middle fingers on my other hand.

LCatC is predominantly silver hexes, with multicolored ones in various colors & sizes thrown in for good measure. It’s probably a little too thick, but a dose of thinner can satisfy your own needs.

Fly is a pain in the ass, and I may end up taking back my a-england Galahad from my swap box and shoving that in there in its place. I needed four coats to even look remotely presentable, and I’d rather have a dustier blue than that inconvenient mess.

I really like accenting my nails this way. It’s fun and I’ll probably overdo the crap out of it, but when I want to wear glitter (but not too much of it), I’ll do that to keep it interesting.

I think I resolved to use up a lot of yarn in my stash before I kept buying any more, which I’ve sort of done. I think I’ve been pretty good; it’s just the scraps and the leftovers from finished projects that kill my space. I have no idea what to do with them. I don’t really want to make knick-knacks out of them because then they’d just clutter up my house. I may end up donating them if I don’t find something useful to do with them by the end of this year.

I think I may have also resolved to wear ALL of my nail polish at least once, including stuff I’ve swatched (hurr hurr Rach) previously for this blog. You may see duplicate posts about certain polishes. Hope you don’t mind. I’ll try not to post HARE Polish The Sky Was Pink two weeks in a row. I honestly couldn’t help wearing it, though.

My last resolution, and one I should have started on after I got situated after my move, is to continue the NHL 30-Team Nail Art Challenge. I swear I have so many ideas swirling around in my head that it is driving me bananas. I just haven’t acquired the proper equipment to do this properly.

Anyway, that was A Lot Of Words. I’m glad you read them all. (I hope.) Thanks for reading!

Lacquistry Sedona Red

Since there is a hockey game tonight, I figure I would finally show you one of my hockey polishes. Sometime last year, Lacquistry opened up some custom orders for people and I jumped at the chance because I have never had a polish custom-made for me outside of frankens and stuff. Since the Coyotes were in the middle of playoffs, I decided to have three colors made for me. I wanted to take three things that were Coyotes to the core: their old jersey colors, the Whiteout, and their current color scheme. I sent her a few ideas of what I wanted, and she did a great job making custom polishes for me.

sedonared_bottle

This is the first one I’m going to show you called Sedona Red. It’s the official name of the color we use.

sedonared

I layered Sedona Red over OPI Got the Blues for Red. My middle finger was painted completely with it, while my other nails were GLITTER GRADIENT’D! Sedona Red contains fine red glitter with larger black and white hexes and smaller gold hexes.

This uses all the colors in our current jerseys and logo. In hindsight, I probably should have gone with black and white bar glitter with gold hexes, but I do love this the way it is.

I wore this to our home opener against the Blackhawks. I can’t say we did very well, but it was a seriously fun game, and we were upgraded to the lower level! This is what my view looked like:

I have never sat down there, but it was pretty cool. The game looks soooo much faster than where I usually sit, and boy do those players look a lot bigger. The fans were a little weirder though, but I think I just missed my regular crew.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Deborah Lippmann Raise Your Glass

Aren’t you all super lucky! You’re getting a super recent nail color out of me because this is what I’m wearing on my day of birth. Yes, that’s today.

Okay, well, technically I put this on Tuesday night because my co-workers and I had Thai food on Wednesday. By the way, if you’re ever in Phoenix, I highly recommend two places for Thai food: Thai Basil (on University/Farmer) and Thai House (Shea/70th St.). The first is owned by one of the nicest ladies ever, they make a mean pad ga pao, and it’s our go-to Thai place at work. The second is one that BF and I went to and their panang curry is phenomenal. Plus they were playing the new Regina Spektor album so it was quite amusing.

Well, I wasn’t feeling too hot Tuesday and my body started to ache. Wednesday was ok in the morning, but as the day dragged on my hands got numb cause I was super cold (my lab is abnormally cold), and my body aches got worse. Let’s just say that Advil was my best friend. I think I had a small fever, which wasn’t the best. I think I even ripped off my flannel pj bottoms because I was sweating, lol. Look, I am very finicky when it comes to feeling hot and cold! I can’t even imagine me when I have hot flashes. Nope. Not looking forward to it.

Today, I am just full-blown sick. I’m sure my mom (who is a Vitamin C fiend) is very happy about that…shudder. I can just hear her now! Anyway, the BF is taking care of me today. He took me to our favorite Vietnamese place in Phoenix for lunch, and I ate quite a bit! I even managed to get a lot of knitting done today!

Some of my wonderful friends also sent me a super wonderful birthday package, which was totes awesome. I feel really grateful to have women like that in my life. <3

Raise Your Glass was released for the 175th anniversary of Holt Renfrew, a department store in Canada. I have never been in one, because I have never been to Canada. But this nail polish reminds me of the yearly anniversary stuff that Nordstrom’s gets. (i.e. Dior Shadow) You know, all my Canadian friends, one day I will go to Canada. Maybe to see a hockey game. Just not in Winnipeg. I don’t think you’ll ever see me in Winnipeg. ;) RYG is also named after that one Pink song, which I always found to be fairly “inspirational,” a la Lady Gaga “Edge of Glory,” but a little more cheesy.

This is two coats. So, er…I don’t know how to describe this. My boss pointed out that it looked like a jelly…but it was more opaque like a creme. So maybe it’s a crelly? I…really don’t like that word. It’s such a dumb word. But look! Tiny pink glitter! It’s darling!

Application was interesting. It was smooth and easy to clean up, but it left this gritty surface on my nails. It didn’t feel too gritty, though. I dunno. Gelous and SV took care of it, though.

To be honest, I don’t really know how up there Holt Renfrew is in terms of quality. Is it like a Nordstrom’s? Macy’s? Dillard’s? All I know is that when I went to their website, they carried Domino Jeans, which I own all of two pairs from them. I did not get them from HR, though. I instead got them on Fab. The company took their damn sweet time sending it to me, though. Three weeks! Three!! Sigh. To be honest, it was kind of worth it. They fit similar to Lucky’s, and I’ve found out that mid-rise to most women = high-rise on me. Er, yeah. I dunno.

Whoops. No photo of my straightened out fingers. Oh well. It’s early. Also, you may have noticed that I am wearing fingerless gloves…it was a little cold yesterday morning. :P

OPI DS Extravagance

Dear Total Wine: please let me know when you are receiving in your shipment of Woodchuck Fall cider. I have no cider left and am very sad. I want something that doesn’t taste like pumpkins for fall because I think pumpkin is the new bacon and I would forever wish bacon and pork would stop being so overused because my people totally did it first!! /hipster

Anyway.

I am not feeling very well today. But here is a post!

This is two coats of OPI DS Extravagance, and one coat of Lynnderella The Tell-Tale Heart on my ring and thumbs as accent nails. I had to take these pictures in my kitchen again, for maximum holo- and glitter-ness.

I do miss having accent nails. It is my way of putting nail art on my nails, minus the art. I think I read somewhere that the placement of accent nails (or which fingers I accent) means I’m a lesbian and looking for love. Or something like that. I read it on Jezebel. By the way, did I mention that I cannot stand Jezebel? I really do not like that website (or the Gawker network in general) at all. Okay, I take that back. I rather like Jalopnik. They actually have decent articles. (And pretty cars. I like pretty cars.)

Lynnderella She Lived in a Swamp + a-england Dragon

I have had this…I don’t know what to call it…want? I guess it has been a want. I have lately wanted to wear my Lynnderellas. Yes, they’re all old. Vintage, if you will. The sting of being considered a show-off and beneath such an ARTISTE in mind and creativity has slowly melted away, and in the spirit of Halloween I have wanted to break them out again. After all, it’s just nail polish, right?

So here I am, revisiting some of my old polishes that I have kept. I’m going to attempt to post something Halloween-ish every Wednesday, up until Halloween. I’m not one for school spirit and all that, but I do like to (attempt to) participate!

This is two coats of a-england Dragon, topped with a coat of Lynnderella She Lived in a Swamp.

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why this called out to me, or why I kept it. This is one of the original bottles from the Halloween 2011 collection, and all the bar glitter is a pain in the ass to lay flat. I thought I could turn a blind eye to the difficulty in application, but it annoys the crap out of me. Dabbing glitter on is one thing, and I don’t mind that. But stabbing unruly bar glitters is something I do mind. Maybe it was intentional back then, too.

The combination is still a nice one. In real life, you can see the sort-of duochrome-y-ness in Dragon. And I’ve heard that some people don’t like claw poses, so here is a straight-fingered one for you!
